Celebrating Independence Day.... The CrossFit Way
Independence Day is quickly approaching and we at MDI came up with three different event ideas to help you, the box owners, not only sell t-shirts but build and strengthen the community in your box. We present to you, celebrating Independence Day..... the CrossFit way!
#1: Slip & Slide Kick Ball
I know you've all seen Youtube videos about this one. It's seriously a blast. Having been tested by one of our staff members, this one is sure to be a hit with your members. The fun thing about this is it is a family friendly game so get the spouses and kids involved!
Materials needed for this event are;
4 Rolls of Plastic or Tarps
4 Inflatable Kiddie Pools
A Large Ball
A Water Source
You take the rolls of plastic and lay them out like lanes, with a kiddie pool at the end for each base. Fill the pools and water down the lanes. Dish soap helps keep them slick but you must add water from time to to time. Remember to allow plenty of time to fill your pools. It's great to grill out during or afterward as this game tends to last a while. Play just as you would normal kickball.
#2 SpikeBall Teams Tournament
The SpikeBall craze is making its way across the country. It's a fun game that you can involve anyone that wants to play and by creating teams of two you can make it a fun event for your box members.
To play this you will need to order the game from the website. We've included the How to Play below:
1) The sport of roundnet is played 2 vs 2, with a hoola hoop sized Spikeball net placed between the teams.
2) A player starts a point by serving the ball down on the net so it ricochets up at his opponents. They have up to three hits between them (just like Volleyball) to control the ball and bounce it back off the net. When they miss, you score.
3) Did we mention that there are no boundaries? Once a point starts, players can move or hit the ball anywhere. (spikeball.com)
#3 Water Balloon Dodgeball
This is another one that will help everyone beat the heat. Create teams in your box ahead of time by having everyone sign up. This is another game that is family friendly and can involve spouses and kids as well.
The materials needed for this are pretty straight forward:
Water balloons (look for the packets of easy fill water balloons)
Buckets or coolers to hold each teams balloons
A Water Source
This is played just like regular dodgeball. For a fun spin, if someone gets out have them perform 5 reps of a body weight exercise (i.e. Burpees) to get back in. Catching the balloons to get someone out maybe difficult so to substitute that, if a balloon is thrown at a person but does not break, the person that has thrown it is out.
There you have it, three fun ways to celebrate the birthday of our country in a way that helps build and strengthen your community. To help market these ideas to your box we have created some free done for you designs as well as some customizable designs. Have your athletes buy their team shirts now!
